KOA TEACHES US ABOUT INDEPENDENCE!!
Koa has been with the St. Francis Family since 2005. Prior to his migration to Montgomery, he was part of a duo and his owner had hopes that he would find true love, mate, and live happily ever after. This fairy tale is not uncommon with wolves since the majority mate for life and will grieve deeply after the loss of a loved one. What WAS overlooked is that if a male and a female are brought up together from pups then they often will not mate. Koa was no exception.
After realizing that no profit could be made, Koa was then chained in the backyard with his companion. While we have no way of knowing what he endured there, we do know that his friend passed on while in this situation. It was at this point that a neighbor took over care of Koa and provided a loving home. When she fell ill, she turned to St. Francis as one of the few places she knew would take the same loving and individual care that she did.
Now Koa is a wolf that gives nothing but love to all he meets. When he is not “smiling” he is giving kisses to anyone within reach or eating his fair share of treats. He is a big fluffy wolf with a big fluffy heart. Koa is a wonderful Ambassador for the sanctuary.
