"It was never my intention to have a Sanctuary for Wolves and Wolf-dogs. However, my experience is that there are
no accidents, and even coincidences may be best described as situations in which God chooses to remain anonymous."

We joyously welcomed Sable into our St. Francis Family in July of 2005.. She found us (or rather loving workers at a Dallas Dog Rescue found us) after it was discovered that she was not what her owners were expecting. Sable was purchased as a gift but as is the case with most wolves bought as pets, this family got more than they had wanted. Anyone who knows Sable can tell you that she is a sweetheart and even her owners said that she loved to cuddle! However, she still had the large paws of a wolf. Paws that are particularly good at making it difficult to maintain a clean home. Feeling that a wolf did not fit with their lifestyle, Sable was no longer wanted.

Wolves are intelligent, gorgeous, and amazing wild animals but what we sometimes forget is that they do better remaining WILD….not kept as pets. Sadly, wolves are officially extinct in Texas and when they have only been kept in captivity, release is not an option.

Sable is happy, socializing with the other wolves. However, when it comes to people. it can take her a while to warm up. She is a good example of the natural wariness that wolves have of humans. Just like her wild wolf friends, she is not aggressive to people. She would just prefer to be loved for what she is and not what we want her to be. Who could argue with that?
