Akela Award Requirements

 

Contact rae@wolvesofsaintfrancis.org with the Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary to schedule a service project appropriate for the age group and time

To Learn About, View & Get Hands On With:  

 

a.       The Wolves of Saint Francis

b.       Learn about the Gray Wolf (Canis Lupus) a Texas Endangered Species

c.       What does Endangered mean?

d.       What is being done to save the Gray Wolf?

e.       Draw a picture of the Gray Wolf.

f.         What is a Natural Resource?

g.       Why is it important to protect and conserve Natural Resources?

h.       What is the food chain?  Draw the food chain.

i.         What happens if the food chain is broken?

j.         Learn about five animals that use camouflage in the wild.

k.       With the assistance of Sanctuary personnel make a plaster cast of a Wolf track.

 

The cost per participant for the Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary Akela Award is $10.00.  This covers the cost of materials as well as a Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary Akela Award Patch. 

 

Should immediate family members want to attend with the participant there will be a donation of $5.00 per person.  

 

Since the focus of these sessions is the Scout, we ask that parents plan on staying with children who are not Scouts.

 

If you are involved in the Cub Scout Program of the Boy Scouts of America, completion of the Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary Akela Award also qualifies you for the Wildlife Conservation Academics Belt Loop and Wildlife Conservation Academics Pin.  These can be purchased at any Scout Shop.

 

Souvenir Saint Frances Wolf Sanctuary T-shirts are available on site for a donation of $15.00 each.
