Poems & Thoughts

--My wolf brother and me--

As I lay dreaming Beneath the stars
Under the new moon I awoke
I rubbed the sleep from my eyes
Was it thunder,
Or the sound of approaching drums?

As a gentle breeze kissed my cheek
I rose with an epiphany
Excited, I looked down at my feet
Then backed away, just so much
For the magical the dance to unfold

The drums were singing spirits
The heartbeat of mother earth
Approaching from the East
to put on their final show.

Softly and without a sound
He approached from the trees
Stopped in the middle of the circle
And greeted me without uttering my name.

Good journey, my friend
He said softly with his eyes
Would you dance with me, one last time
Before my new journey begins?

Humbled, I stepped forward
Offering a thanks with a bow
Then we danced in the enchanted circle
My wolf brother and me

Good journey, my friend

Wolf served hamburger in Italian bar!

18/12/2007 14:42 ROME, December 18 (RIA Novosti)

- A hungry wolf  descended from the mountains in Aquila,

central Italy, and went to a local bar searching for food,

the Italian ANSA news agency said on Tuesday.

The adventurous wolf entered the packed Cantaflura bar

in Italy's Villetta Barrea province on Monday evening.

The bar owner said that the wolf behaved very calmly,

paying little attention to the other guests.

In an attempt to sate the beast's hunger,

the barman made a juicy hamburger and threw it to the animal.

The wolf ate the food, left the bar

and did not come back, the owner said.

A Beautiful Poem Dedicated to the Wolves

Written by Marissa Williams

A moonlit forest, in wild countryside,

Come again, come again.

In only you can I confide,

Come again, come again.

Silent legs, large paws, a way with the wind,

Come again, come again.

Howl loud to the sky, how long has it been,

Come again, come again.

Golden eyes seek me in the lake,

Come again, come again.

Everlasting bond with the woods you'll make,

Come again, come again.

Rulers of the forest, true king of the trees,

Rulers of the forest, true queen of the leaves.

Rulers of the forest, howl to the moon,

Rulers of the forest, come again soon.

"I'd like to say that your sanctuary is the most touching in all the world, even though I've only visited you guys.

A Walk in the Park -

Hi All,  this is Anne here checking in from B.C. Canada

I had to share an interesting story with everyone.

I take my two dogs, Jessie a black Lab and Bree a black and white Border Collie to the "off leash" dog park every day.  They absolutely love it.

We've encountered many wolf hybrids, very well behaved I might add, but one very interesting cross bred dog comes everyday with his owner.  The owners name is Diane, and the dogs name is Norman.  Norm's coloring is identical to Beau, that's what got me as well as his teaching behavior.

We refer to him as the park warden, I have to say he is identical in looks and nature to dear Beau. When I first saw Norm a lump came into my throat, for when two or three dogs gather to play or tussle, he gets in the middle and sorts them, especially the puppies, teaching them manners, just the same as Beau reacted with Mwitu.

Diane couldn't understand what Norm was doing at first, until I explained to her of a wolf I knew who did the same thing.

We have found out that Norm is a shepherd/husky cross, is a bout 9 yrs old, is an adopted dog to Diane, and was grossly overweight when she acquired him,  he has since lost about 20 lbs, and is doing just great.

My Jessie just loves him, and will run to greet him every morning at the park.

So there are doubles in this world, whether it be human or from the animal world.   Best wishes to all  from Anne

The wolf Anne refers to, Beau, was one of our Beloved Wolves here at the Sanctuary.

He was our 1st Wolf Ambassador and was usually the first wolf people were introduced to when visiting Jean & John's house or the Sanctuary.

He was a gentle and soulful giant, who once he knew you, would give you love unconditionally. To read Beau's story click here.

Beau passed away on July 15th, 2006, due to complications from intestinal cancer. He is still missed and thought about. He has touched so many in his life and his story continues to reach out and touch so many still. During his memorial service, the Sanctuary received over 60 letters, phone calls and emails of remembrances and condolences.

A Lovely Letter from a Visiting Family:

"Dear Jean,   I have been remiss in sitting down and typing this letter of appreciation for the afternoon we spent at the Sanctuary with you.  While we expressed our thanks and pleasure when we were leaving, I doubt that we realized the very positive impact of that afternoon on the three of us.

You do have such a wonderful talent for making people feel at ease and comfortable with your wolves and with yourself.  We were truly impressed with the cleanliness of the facilities and the wolves.  The opportunity to actually greet and be greeted by some of the wolves was a special treat that will long be remembered by each of us.

[My mother-in-law] returned to Paradise Springs, her retirement facility in Spring, Texas, gave the management some of your brochures and talked about nothing else but our visit with you for the next two days.............

Again, we thank you for your gracious explanations and for allowing us to have an experience of a lifetime..."

Waya

It is midnight…the in between time…between night and day.

The wind is warm

and I hear the stream just beyond the tall grass.

You have walked ahead of me, but not too far.

You are my protector.

We stop at the water’s edge.

You lay your head on my thigh and are still

The night is ours and I stroke your soft fur…

You are my companion.

Soon you stand

and walk to the edge of the water to stand on a tall rock

You raise your regal head and sing to the moon

I am awed at the beauty in your song.

You are my soul.

We will walk this path together

until the time the Spirit world calls.

If I am first,

I will wait for you and listen for you to call me.

And if the Creator allows, I will find you…

For you are my… forever.

Oh my... i'm from Chile, so i can't go to your sanctuary, but anyway, i hope the better for you and the lovely wolves (that i love so MUCH!)

take care and good luck =)

Carla Venegas, 20 years old, from Temuco, CHILE

Hello,

I stumbled upon this website quite by accident.  I was captivated by the beautiful face between the trees.  I read on.

I looked at the video's, photo's and slide shows.  I read all the lovely statements from people who had met Yukon and had visited the sanctuary.

I have not been to the sanctuary and have not met Yukon but your sanctuary and Yukon now have a special place in my heart and soul and I will treasure that.

 Thank you.

More Remembrances for Yukon that were delivered throughout the past months:

>Dear Jean:
>This is coming very late to you, but I've only just been able to
>catch up to the Wolf Sanctuary Newsflash to read about dear Yukon.
>Aside from that wildly funny moment when I was sitting on the log
>and visiting with Grandmother (what a privilege!), then did a
>Mexican dance because the fire ants were running up my legs, the one
>other image that always jumps to mind whenever I think of my visit
>was the look Yukon gave me when I was introduced to him and Spirit.
>I can see and feel it to this moment and -- yes, like everyone else,
>it seems -- tears spring to my eyes as I type.
>I can't do justice to his expression in writing. I can only attempt
>to list some of its ingredients: tenderness, friendship, hesitation,
>suffering. He was a darling.
>Love to you, just for yourself but also for all the work you do at
>the Sanctuary (and elsewhere!). I eat my heart out that I can't find
>a way (yet) to get down there to volunteer. I live in hope.

Hi My Friends

Is really difficult write when we learn love this wonderful creatures. Thanks YUKON, Thanks for your love to our Spirit , Thanks... I know you really be in the Great Heaven Forest without pain forever.

William Lasanta

Hi there. I would like to pay tribute to Yukon --
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I met this gentle giant late last year. We bonded in March of this
year when we acknowledged each other - me with a rub on his hind quarter
and he with the biggest kiss all over my face. I still smile when I
 think of that kiss.

In mid-June I felt my heart calling its return to the sanctuary to
visit Yukon, Jean and all the wolves. Upon reflection, I believe Yukon was
communicating that his time to pass was near. While Yukon's passing
greatly saddened my heart on one hand, on the other I was elated for him
to be released from this earthly life. I see him running in fields of
 green with no pain.

As for Jean, her love and devotion to the wolves is nothing less than
spectacular to witness, and her decision to assist Yukon to the other
side exhibits her dedication to provide these wolves with the best
possible life -- and death. Thank you, Jean and Yukon.

Namaste to our noble friend. Godspeed.

------------------------------

Yukon, the king
we hear your call
from wooded trees
you sing to all
of kind first deeds
of Nottingham thoughts
of collegiate ways
of that we do naught
of coal burning fires
that run deep in the night
of myriad of birds
    that wake at light
of kindred wolf spirits that
    hold the space
of Faith
of Hope
of Victory
for the human race

In Light,

To Jean and the caretakers of the St Francis wolves:

I took [a] picture of Yukon during our group's (Virginia Bowen's group
from Houston) visit to St. Francis in March of this year. It has been
my screensaver on my computer at work ever since! Now that Yukon has
crossed over, and I particularly wanted you all to have this photo.

Thanks for sharing the spirit of the wolves with us!

In light,
Jill
